Jinja - A District That Holds The Heart Of The Nile

Famous for the river Nile Jinja is a town in Uganda Located 125 east of Kampala the capital. Located on the shores of Lake Victoria, near to the source of the White Nile River, this city is also considered the capital of the Busoga kingdom. Jinja is bordered by towns to include Njeru (1.9 nm), Kimaka (2.8 nm), Buwenda (2.8 nm), Mpumudde (2.6 nm), Masese (2.3 nm), Bugungu (1.5 nm) and Walukuba (2.4 nm)).

The town centre overlooks the lake with large houses that have big yards, which is the legacy that the early developers left for the town. The town is quiet, calm, with tree lined street and this gives the ambiance that visitor experience on arrival in the town. Different from Kampala, the rush hour in Jinja is not the same as that in Kampala. There is less traffic and it is easy to get around and parking is no problem as half of all vehicles are bicycles. On your way to Jinja is the Mabira forest reserves the largest forest in Central Uganda. There is an active Hindu temple near Jinja, which has a bronze bust of Gandhi. There is also a Buddhist temple.

Also referred to as the Nalubaale dam could be described as the source of the White Nile, at the point where the river flows out of Lake Victoria. The dam provides electrical power to Uganda and Kenya and it is the crossing road fro Kampala to the East.

A popular weekend spot for Ugandans located, Bujagali Falls is a world-class spot for kayaking and white water rafting. It is located several kilometers downstream from 'The Source'.

Quad-biking

This is another popular activity that has been on the falls for several years. It can be done in groups, as a family and as an individual.
